Can a person become a lawyer with a infraction?
Is it possible for me to become a lawyer with a petty theft infraction. I know they have no way in finding out about the infraction, but on a back round check it says i have been charged with a petty theft misdemeanor then it says dismissed. How would this look to a law school and the BAR?

What compensation am I entitled to as a lawyer's witness?
My sister is suing her nursing home for injury and loss. My mother and I who used to visit her there, we have been subpoenaed by the nursing home's lawyer. We would like to know what our " lawyer's witness fee" is supposed to be or how much compensation we are entitled to for our travel expenses and time spent for the subpoena. I tried to google it and got lots of irrelevant links. Will someone please advise me or post a link as to where I can get the answer? Thanx.

What type of lawyer would I need if I want to sue the local police officer/department for causing me a serious?
Its a long story, but getting straight to the point...during the course of an arrest, the cops put me in handcuffs applied way too tight. I begged them to loosen them, but they kept saying " We will loosen them after we get you in the car" . They finally loosened them a bit in the car, but still not enough to improve my circulation. They kept them on tight for the next hour or so, saying to me that they weren't that tight because they could fit one finger in. However, I had completely lost all sensation in both hands. I repeatedly begged, and they still refused. Even after I was sitting in the processing area of the holding cells, they were still on too tight. But my biggest issue is...once I was handcuffed and complying, the officer that was walking me out of my apartment, guided me out with one hand on the cuffs towards the flight of stairs leading out of my apartment. While at the top of the steps, I was still talking shit. Not fighting or struggling with him physically...just running my mouth. As he was leading me to walk down the first step, I called him an asshole. I then felt him push me forward, then let go of the cuffs. I ended up falling down 13 steps, face first, with my hands cuffed behind my back. I landed at the bottom of the stairs, while the officers still stood at the top watching me. They made no effort to try to catch me. My buddy that lives next door saw the whole thing through my screen door outside, as well did my wife, from inside the apartment. Then to top it off, they lifted me off the ground by the cuffs that were already cutting off the circulation to both hands. I admit that at first, I slightly resisted them, because I had no idea why the were in my house to begin with, let alone, asking me to put my hands behind my back. I was talking smack, yelling and calling them names, but when threatened with a tazer...I then completely physically complied, and allowed them to cuff me without struggle. But I did continue to run my mouth. However, this is no excuse for them to use excessive force, and put my life in danger. Im not a criminal. Ive only been in trouble with the law once in my life when I was 18, in 1996 for stealing a pack of cigarettes . But they treated me as if I had just killed someone The only reason they were there in the first place, is because my wife and I had a shouting match that night, and she called them in effort to calm me down. So instead of trying to diffuse the situation, they came in like a bunch of bully's and roughed me up to the point of endangering my life. And at this point, its quite possible, that I may have a serious permanent injury. All because I had an argument with my wife, and then having an attitude with them.It has been 3 days now, and I cannot feel the backs of my hands, or wrists. They are still completely numb. My neck, mid and low back are radiating pain throughout my body. It hurts so bad, that its nearly nauseating. I have been to the emergency room twice. And unfortunately I dont have any health insurance. The ER doctors told me to contact my family doctor to get an MRI, and a nerve study...because they suspect radial nerve damage. But I obviously cant afford this type of medical attention without insurance. What should I do?I have tried calling, and leaving voice mails with the internal affairs department, with no response. I have also contacted this officers supervisor, and Im still waiting to hear the status of his investigation. I have 2 witnesses that saw the officer push me down the steps, and they have both contacted the internal affairs department with no response. I dont know what to do? Im hurt, and need medical attention, and have no way in doing so. Im thinking about going to a lawyer, but I dont even know what type of lawyer deals with this type of situation? Any suggestions? This is a very serious situation, if anyone can offer any advice, I would really appreciate it. Thanks for listening. I am not a criminal and to top it off this all happened the night of my birthday

Inexpensive/Pro Bono Lawyer to take on Child Services?
Recently, there has been some trouble between a family member and her husband he tried to commit suicide not the first time has psychologically abused her, and has exposed their two children to all of this. She left him twice and had to leave her children because she was threatened by him if she took them he would kill her, and she was homeless when she left. She knew that either myself or their paternal grandmother would watch over them. Last week he tried to kill himself with a knife, which he admitted to the police, and was taken to the hospital. When he was released 6 hours later, his wife was ready to leave and take the children with her. They were going to be staying with me and my family while I helped her do what she needed. Two days after she leaves she gets harassed into going back to the home to have a conversation with his mother. She lives next door. It was a trap and he spent three hours telling her that she couldn't leave him. She managed to contact me to pick her and the children up, I called the police before I left and headed there. When I got there she was an emotional wreck and after an intimidating screaming match between me and him and him threatening me and refusing to let us take the children, I wound up having to take her to the ER. Long story short, Child Protective Services gets involved and they wind up setting up an Immediate Protection Agreement that gives the grandmother control of the children and she is supposed to supervise all contact between the parents and the children. Now, keep in mind that her son, the father and abuser, lives about 50 feet from her, has a house key, and comes and goes as he pleases. She calls this woman to make an appointment to see the children. During this time, we learn that the IPA has been violated because the grandmother was at work that is where she called from and admitted she was there and she had not had the children since 11 30 that morning. They meet the following day at a park where the mother plays with the children for about an hour and the oldest he's 7 states that he wants to come with her to my house, not once but twice. The youngest child is 2. We had a meeting with a lawyer for the upcoming emergency custody hearing this afternoon. We got an idea to call the grandmother's place of employment to see if she was there this was 6 45 pm and she was, which given her schedule means that she didn't watch the children again today like she was instructed. We call the CPS worker at which time he informs us that he left it to her discretion as to who would watch the children, but the IPA specifically names her and no one else. Later this evening we were disturbed to find out that the father has had them without supervision, which is another violation and defeats the whole purpose of the CPS involvement. The children are in consistent danger of psychological harm in his care, not to mention that they were both present and awake for his suicide attempt. CPS is supposed to do a walkthrough of every potential place the children may wind up throughout all this, and they never went to any home. The father's home, by his own admittance, was a disaster, and there are wires still hanging in the attic from his last suicide attempt. The grandmother's home is almost half the size of mine, not childproof the 2 year old still gets into everything and puts stuff in her mouth and there are two dangerous pit german shepherd mixes that are notorious for attacking people and snapping at the children. None of these issues have been addressed and we were told, by CPS, to bring it up in court. Now that you have the abbreviated background, my question is this Does anyone know of an inexpensive pro bono lawyer that will aid us in bringing up a lawsuit against Child Services for endangering the welfare of a child? The lawyer that we have now only deals with custody and divorce and has no idea who would be able to help. We are specifically looking for legal counsel in Knoxville Tennessee. This needs immediate attention and all help is greatly and immensely appreciated. Thanks and keep us and the children in your prayers.
