Question: How would a lawyer feel about this?
(Posted by: Sweet n Sour on 2010-03-10 03:48:02)
If a client took them an article describing the law in a case they were hired to do for them, would the lawyer get annoyed their client had to give them such info or would they not care either way or would they admire that the client is pro- active? (and yes I did take my lawyer an article published by a peer and feel stupid about it now but am wondering how bad it was now that I realize he is a very competent lawyer which brand new I didn't know and was only trying to help). |

It depends on the lawyer. If he or she is focused on you and your case, there should be no problem. Your engagement and interest in your case should be appreciated. If the lawyer is more self-focused, narcissistic or egotistic, then the lawyer may be offended. But that is not your problem. You are engaging the services of a person who is working for you. Do not lose any sleep over this. |

You asked this yesterday. Still same answer - he will smile and set it aside. He probably has already read it, and he already knows the law. You hired him to do a job, let him do that job. |

Lawyers know that lay people are clueless about the law. If they are a good lawyer, they would have found it amusing at best, and mildly annoying at worst. The annoying aspect not being that you don't believe in your lawyer, the annoying aspect is explaining why its not interesting, why its not relevant, or how he is very familiar with the case, etc. Don't sweat it. They understand they speak a language the rest of us don't understand because the law is not something "rational " or "logical " or "common sense " Its a tower of babel, procedures, policies, and actions that most people say "what the h*** is that all about " My favorite saying to my lawyers over the years has been "Does the truth have any place in this case? " and the usual answer from a lawyer is "No " |

If you brought in case law, and it was relevent, it might help because lawyers don't like to do research if the case is difficult. Otherwise, you wasted your time. |

My lawyer seems to like it when I show that I'm actually thinking about the case against me. He tells me that most of his clients don't give it any thought at all. |
